Deborah-Harris Moore teaches in the writing program at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her 2014 book Media and the Rhetoric of Body Perfection (Routledge) examines the “rhetorical forces” fueling contemporary obsessions with body image and weight.

If there’s a single word that captures relationships today, romantic or otherwise, it’s mediation. It’s not surprising that many of our interactions occur through various media; they have been doing so for a long time.
